Memorial to Edith Corse Evans at Grace Church in New York City via Scouting NY.  Another plaque honoring Edith Corse Evans can be found at Saint Ann’s Episcopal Church in Sayville, New York.
A wealthy, single socialite, Edith was 36 years old when she boarded the Titanic.  On board she befriended a 59 year old wife and mother named Caroline Brown.
The two women were among the throng trying to reach a lifeboat as the Titanic sank.  When only one space remained, Edith pushed Caroline forward saying “You go first, you have children waiting at home.”
Edith was one of four first class women to perish in the sinking of the Titanic.  Her body has never been recovered.

Adulting: Step 185: When someone hurts your feelings, ask yourself if their opinion matters

adulting:

I have the thinnest skin in the world, which is hard for someone who writes things for public consumption. But it gets thicker all the time, because people are never, ever stingy with criticism.

When I’m not bringing you life-changing instructions on how to properly wipe counters, I write for a…

It’s Okay 2 Have Desires, but Be Content

For the past week I have had the words, “Do not let your desires compromise your contentment,” running through my mind. Every since the birth of my daughter Elizabeth, I have a peace that is all over me. I have a peace that surpasses all understanding. Nothing extra matters to me.

Don’t get me wrong, I will not let my desires die; I have a faith that delivers, and I know that faith without works is dead. I am still going to work towards my dreams, but I will Not let those plans and actions consume me. Of course I want to move to a bigger city, I would like a bigger car and I’m anxious to start my career, but I still consider my self successful without those things. I am in a beautiful state of mind. I cannot brag about what I am going to do one day or even tomorrow despite my plans or actions, because ultimately it is God who is in control and I don’t know what tomorrow may bring to disrupt my plans.

Our lives are nothing but a vapor, that is here for a while then vanishes away. Because the world most certainly will pass away, and all the desires of the world with it. Why waste time on things of this world and forget to just be thankful for right now?

As we go about everyday pursuing careers and working towards goals, we often times forget to live in our Now; which means to truly celebrate current success without worrying or thinking of what is next to come. To celebrate the now is the ultimate sign of thankfulness for the things we take for granted like food, clothes, or even health. It is important to remember that the things we take for granted are someone else’s miracle.

So as 2012 continues to progress, I will continue to take steps towards my MS degree, continue taking on new PR clients, and possibly obtaining my Real Estate license, but I will make sure to take the time to rest in my current success of family. No more stress.

The Pareto Principle (aka The 80/20 Rule)

moneyisnotimportant:

80% of your income, success, and accomplishments usually comes from 20% of your activities or relationships.  Learn to identify what accounts for that 20%, and do more of it.  Reduce the time you spend on everything else.

It also works the other way — 80% of your problems usually comes from 20% of your relationships, clients, etc.  Learn to identify who those toxic people are, and cut them loose.
